Rotherham Gateway

Rotherham Gateway is an exciting proposal to reconnect our town to the mainline rail network, supporting opportunity and growth across the region.

At its heart, it's a new two-platform mainline station located between the town centre and Parkgate, alongside a new tram-train stop offering convenient local connections. With funding approved by the Department for Transport to develop the Full Business Case and the Government including Rotherham Gateway in its £45bn Northern Powerhouse Rail plans, the station would complement Rotherham Central, providing faster direct services to cities including Sheffield and Leeds, cutting journey times to Birmingham and significantly improving access to the town centre.

The Gateway will also support around 1,000 high-value jobs and 3,000 new homes, enhance access to education and leisure opportunities, attract significant private investment and enable the delivery of advanced manufacturing space. As part of a wider regeneration masterplan, it's expected to unlock £52 million in local economic growth, putting Rotherham firmly on the map as a place people want to live, work and invest.
